OVERVIEW of Girls in Finance Day
New for Fall 2023, Smart Woman Securities at UVA is pleased to host our Girls in Finance Day event so that high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors can engage with current students, staff and faculty and learn about education and careers in finance. Our event offers a unique opportunity to enhance your financial knowledge and explore potential careers in finance. By attending this event, you'll be empowered with the skills and insights needed to make informed decisions about your future. Accepted participants will spend three hours at the Mcintire School of Commerce at UVA collaborating on hands-on activities, and listening to student and faculty speakers. The 3-hour event will be wrapped up with a farewell lunch. We hope that we can give participants a glimpse into what it would be like to pursue education and a career in finance!
Schedule and Details
The application to attend the event will close at 11:59PM on Sunday, November 5.
Sessions facilitated by UVA students and faculty, including:
Guest lecturer from the McIntire School of Commerce
Panel led by current UVA students pursuing careers in finance and business
Hands-on activity demonstrating the power of investing
Tour of the McIntire School of Commerce
The 3-hour event will conclude with a farewell lunch provided by local Charlottesville establishments.
Who can attend?
Our event is intended for students in their junior or senior years of high school. This event will provide insight on pursuing education and a career in finance as a woman, so the event is tailored as a women-oriented space. However, we encourage all students that want to be in this space to apply.
Acceptance to the event is not meant to be competitive as we wish to expose as many students as possible to opportunities in finance; however, in order to provide an engaging interactive experience, we must place limits on the number of accepted students.

Girls in Finance Day is planned, organized, and run by Smart Woman Securities at the University of Virginia, an independent club consisting of undergraduate women interested in learning about finance. We also have UVA staff that support our event through our speaking events

Smart Woman Securities is dedicated to creating a safe, women-oriented space for everyone interested in finance. We welcome anybody in grades 10, 11, and 12 that wants to be in this space to apply and attend our event.

Our event is completely free with the help of grants and community partnerships. By attending Girls in Finance Day, the student will receive a free lunch and merchandise

You will receive an email confirming submission of your application. Decisions will be shared on November 6th. Deadline to confirm attendance of the event will be November 8th.
