Julia Tan

Co-Chief investment officer

Julia Tan is a second-year Pre-Commerce and Foreign Affairs student from McLean, Virginia. Previously, Julia was a member of the Investment Board and a Research Team member within the FIG Group. Outside of SWS, she is part of the Virginia Consulting Group and is a member of the UVA Flute Studio. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, working out, reading, dancing, calligraphy, and spending time with family and friends.

Joanna Li

Co-Chief investment officer

Joanna Li is a third-year student at the McIntire School of Commerce, concentrating in finance and IT. Previously, Joanna has served as an I-Board member. Joanna is from Shanghai, China, and is pursuing a career in corporate strategy and business analytics. During her free time, Joanna enjoys cooking, traveling, and playing video games.

Emily Nguyen

Co-Chief Research Officer

Emily Nguyen is a second-year from Fairfax, Virginia, on the Pre-Commerce track. Previously, Emily spent one semester as a Research Analyst for TMT and one semester as an I-Board member. Outside of SWS, she is involved in the Honor Committee and Madison House. This summer, Emily will be pursuing private wealth management. In her free time, she enjoys exploring bookstores, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Ellie Ferrell

Co-Chief Research Officer

Ellie Ferrell is a third year from Richmond, VA, in the McIntire School of Commerce. She is concentrating in Finance and Accounting. Ellie has previously served as a Senior Analyst for the Industrials and Consumer group and a Research Analyst for Industrials. Outside of SWS, Ellie is involved in the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. This summer Ellie plans to work as an investment banking summer analyst for Barclays in New York City.

Janie Sanborn

CO-Chief global Officer

Janie Sanborn is a third-year from Richmond, Virginia in the College of Arts & Sciences double majoring in Environmental Sciences and Global Sustainability with a minor in Economics. Previously, she has served as a GMT Senior Analyst, GMT Analyst, and Research Analyst for the Energy group. Outside of SWS, she is involved with the Student Council Sustainability Agency and Camp Kesem. In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking, and watching sports.

Elizabeth Rogers

CO-Chief global Officer

Elizabeth Rogers is a third-year student from New Orleans, Louisiana in the McIntire School of Commerce, concentrating in Accounting and Finance with a minor in Art History. Previously, Elizabeth has been an Energy research analyst for the Research Team and a Senior Analyst in GMT. Outside of SWS, Elizabeth is a docent at the Fralin Museum of Art and is involved with the Kappa Kappa Gamma fraternity. This summer, Elizabeth will be interning at PwC as a Tax intern in New York City.

Abby Robinson

CO-Chief Development Officer

Abby Robinson is a second year from Richmond, Virginia, in the College of Arts and Sciences. She is majoring in Economics with plans to attend graduate school. Abby has previously served as a Senior Analyst for the Energy group and a Research Ananlyst for the Healthcare group. Outside of SWS, Abby is involved with the business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi. In her free time, she enjoys going to concerts, sewing, and trying new cafes in Charlottesville.

Gracie Gerhart

CO-Chief Development Officer

Gracie Gerhart is a second year from Memphis, Tennessee in the College of Arts & Sciences intending to major in Economics and Global Commerce in Culture and Society. Previously, Gracie has served as a senior analyst and research analyst on the Global Macroeconomic Team. Outside of SWS, she interns for The Scout Guide, and is involved with McIntire Finance Academy and Madison House. Gracie is currently recruiting for investment banking internships, and enjoys pilates, yoga, and concerts in her free time.

Maya Kanaan

Chief marketing officer

Maya Kanaan is a second year from Great Falls, Virginia majoring in Economics with a minor in Middle Eastern & South Asian Languages & Cultures. Previously, she has served as a Research Analyst and Senior Analyst for the REITs industry. Outside of SWS, Maya is the publicity chair for Arab Student Organization and a mentor for College Mentors for Kids. In her free time, Maya enjoys painting, watching live music, and working out.

Ava McLaughlin Leeman

Ava McLaughlin Leeman is a second year from Boston, Massachusetts on the Pre-Commerce track. Previously, Ava has served two semesters as a Research Analyst for the TMT and REITs industries. Outside of SWS, she is involved in Pancakes for Parkinson's and Girls on the Run through Madison House. In her free time, Ava enjoys running, skiing, and spending time with friends and family.

Tarini Pankanti

Tarini Pankanti is a second-year from Frisco, TX, pursuing a B.S. in Commerce and a minor in Social Entrepreneurship. Previously, she was a Research Analyst for the Industrials group. Outside of SWS, she is the Vice-President of Internal Affairs for Virginia Case Club, Speakers Chair for TEDxUVA, and Community Engagement Officer for She’s The First. This coming summer, Tarini will intern as a Sourcing Analyst for PSG Equity in Boston. In her free time, she loves to sing, write, try new Thai restaurants, and visit art museums.

Hannah Nguyen

Hannah Nguyen is a second year from Mclean, Virginia, majoring in Economics and minoring in Real Estate and Data Analytics. Previously, Hannah has served as a Research Analyst for REITs and FIG, as well as a member on the Community Outreach Committee. Outside of SWS, she is the Treasurer for the Ceramics Club. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, cooking, illustration, pottery, and boxing.
